Convention Policies

Wristbands
You will need to present your wristband to attend any YukomiCon function. Wristbands are non-transferable and must be kept intact for the duration of your convention pass. Keep your wristband visible so security does not stop you. If you are asked to show your wristband, please do so. If your wristband is cut, torn completely, or taken off your wrist, it is no longer valid; report to the registration desk immediately if your wristband becomes damaged to receive a replacement.

Code of Conduct

Attendees must respect common sense rules for public behaviour, safety, personal interaction, common courtesy, and respect for private property. Harrassing, offensive, or dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated. YukomiCon reserves the right to revoke, without refund, the pass of any attendee not in compliance with this policy. Persons feeling uncomfortable or unsafe due to inappropriate and/or threatening behaviour, or who become aware of an attendee not in compliance with this policy should immediately locate a member of security, or a staff member, so that the matter can be handled in an expeditious manner. Parents and guardians must ensure that children under 12 years of age are properly supervised at all times.

Cosplay Policy

  • Regardless of gender identification, we require all attendees, exhibitors, and guests to wear a minimum of sports bra-like coverage on top with leotard-type coverage on bottom (i.e. no bare chests or visible butt cheeks as with thongs or “plumber’s butt”). A costume must provide this level of coverage at all times, including standing, sitting, moving, or posing.

  • All prop weapons, whether projectile or blunt, must adhere to YukomiCon's Weapons Policy (see below).

  • All military, law enforcement, and other emergency service costumes should be easily distinguishable from official uniforms.

  • Hate symbols, including historical hate symbols like swastikas, will not be tolerated at YukomiCon.

  • Please, no signs offering services or making requests to be hugged/touched etc. We want everyone to feel comfortable.

  • Please wear proper footwear. Bare or stocking feet are prohibited, as are rollerblades, roller skates, and wheelies.

  • Makeup must be properly sealed so that it does not rub off with casual contact or make a mess, such as glitter or fake blood.

  • Props, including prop weapons, that take up a significant amount of space (i.e. enough to obstruct hallways or walking areas) or that are so cumbersome as to impede the bearer’s movement should not be carried outside of the appropriate cosplay contest.

  • YukomiCon is a family-friendly event. Please use common sense to ensure that your costume is appropriate for all ages.

YukomiCon reserves the right to inspect all costumes and weapons on an individual basis to ensure that the event remains completely safe and family-friendly. Those who violate these rules assume all responsibility in the event of injury.

Weapons Policy

No functional weapons are allowed at YukomiCon.

Simulated or costume weapons are allowed as part of your costume, subject to prior approval by security and compliance with the following:

  • All prop weapons must be inspected at the Weapons Check Desk.

  • All prop weapons must conform to territorial and federal law.

  • Projectile prop weapons must be rendered inoperable.

  • Metal-bladed prop weapons must be blunt and tied to your costume in such a way that they cannot be drawn.

  • After each person's prop weapon has been checked, it will be tagged by security and you will be given a wristband to wear designating that your weapons have been checked.

  • Security will escort you to the security station for inspection if your prop weapon is not tagged.

The following weapons are strictly prohibited at YukomiCon:

  • Any weapons that may cause a mess (silly string, water-filled guns, water balloons, etc.)

  • Explosives (including firecrackers, caps, fireworks, etc.)

  • Chemical weapons (including bear spray, mace, pepper spray, etc.)

  • Sharp metal-bladed weapons (blunt metal-bladed weapons are allowed so long as they are tied to your costume in such a way that they cannot be drawn)

  • Live ammunition firearms, including those that are not loaded or have the firing pin or bolt removed

  • Functional replica firearms (including air soft guns, paintball guns, cap guns, bb guns, etc.) and functional projectile weapons

  • Blunt weapons (including brass knuckles, nunchaku, clubs, etc.)

  • Any weapons or hand props that are sharp or could break into shards (e.g., props made of fibreglass, glass, or sharp metal)

  • Any other weapon prohibited by Canadian law

If you do not want to have your costume weapons inspected or tagged, or if you are not willing to comply with these policies, please do not bring your prop weapon to YukomiCon. Failure to comply with this weapons policy may result in expulsion from the convention without refund.

Photography/Videography Policy

All con-goers may feel free to take photos or videos at the convention. However, please be respectful of others while doing so. Do not photograph artists' work or record any presentations, workshops, or screenings without the permission of the artists or presenter. Always ask permission before taking a photo or video of someone in costume and do not photograph or take video of underage persons without the permission of their parent or legal guardian.

Do not obstruct walkways or attractions while taking photographs or videos.

Please wait in line to get a photograph with special guests.

Animals Policy

Excepting service animals, no pets or other animals will be allowed at YukomiCon.

Smoking Policy

No smoking is allowed at any YukomiCon event at any time and in any location. You are welcome to step outside to smoke in designated smoking areas only, but please be considerate of others when you do. Please comply with this policy; non-compliance may result in being ejected from the convention.

Strollers Policy

Strollers are not allowed in the panel or workshop rooms or the retro gaming area. Stroller parking is located in various areas in the Yukon Convention Centre and Coast High Country Inn. Parking will be free of charge and provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note:  YukomiCon will not provide security  or check-in/check-out for the strollers.
