YukomiKids

 

An all-day zone just for kids and family! All activities are suitable for youth ages 3+ (parent/guardian participation required) and are free of charge thanks to support from Youth Investment Fund.

All activities will take place in the Exhibition Hall (KDCC Longhouse) unless otherwise noted.

Saturday

 

All Day - Self-Directed Activities (Whitehorse Public Library Meeting Room - downstairs)

Simple and fun crafts will be available for children to do solo between the YukomiKids scheduled one hour activities; tables will be set up with materials (bits of shiny paper, yarn, foam bits, etc.), glue, markers, and crayons – all your kids need to bring is their imagination. We will also have story time!

All Day, 1 hour  - I Challenge You to a Pipe Cleaner Pokémon Battle!

Every wanted to combine your love of pipe cleaners with your love of Pokémon?  No?  Wait, you meant yes, right?!  Well, now you can!  Using nothing but pipe cleaners, can you create some of the Pokéworld’s most beloved characters?

Materials: pipe cleaners

11am, 1 hour - Abducted by Aliens

Extra Extra, read all about!  Aliens heard that the Yukon is a favourite vacationing spot for the universe and are invading YukomiKids!  Come and take home your very own spaceship and furry alien – some assembly required!

Materials: paper plates, plastic cups, markers, paint, googly eyes, yarn, puff balls, glue, scissors

1pm, 1 hour - Dragons Really Do Egg-xist

Dragons in our world have a secret.  They lay their eggs with a spell of illusion cast on them and hide them in our world, hoping that a child will find them and see the magic inside. 

Any egg you see could be a dragon egg – maybe yours?  Come to YukomiKids and find out for yourself!** Limited quantity - first come, first served

Materials: markers, paint, nail polish, gems, glitter, glue

 

 

3pm, 1 hour  - Thar’s a Snake in Mah Boot!

We’re not sure why, but for some reason the snakes slithering at our feet in YukomiKids like the smell of stinky ol’boots!  Maybe that’s why their scales are so unique in colour and strangely patterned…saunter on in, take a gander, and keep an eye on your boots while you design your own rattler!

Materials: rope, washi or duct tape, plastic spoon, paper, glue, scissors
 

Sunday

11am, 1 hour - Hakuna Matata Is a Wonderful Phase

Kids can see themselves as anything – including as the King and Queens of all that the light touches, and their beastly subjects.  It’s our sing song problem free philosophy over here at YukomiKids, and a phase that will never end – right grown ups?!  Join us in making paper plate mirrors of lions and other wild animals and see the King or Queen in yourself…

 

Materials: paper plates, tin foil, yarn, glue, markers, scissors

 

 

1pm, 1 hour - From Trash to Friend: Fact or Fiction?

You’ve got a friend indeed – it’s just waiting for you to make it.  Whether it’s made of a spork, spoon, or popsicle stick, that’s up to you; join us at YukomiKids and make a new friend in class. 

Materials: Spoons/sporks, popsicle sticks, play dough, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, yarn, other

 

 

3pm, 1 hour - Sabers So Easy, You Can Do Them Solo

A fan favourite – pool noodles infused with the force!  Come to the YukomiKids side of the force; we may not have cookies (due to Interstellar health and safety regulations) but we have light saber noodles that can be designed however you want!

 

Materials: Pool Noodles (various colours and sizes), duct tape (various colours and sizes)
